Barcelona, Espania

Unfortunately, we saw very little of Barcelona. We arrived around 10am local time after travelling for nearly 30 hours (Las Vegas to St. Louis to New York to Lisbon to Barcelona, changing planes each time except in Lisbon). After clearing customs, we were tossed onto a bus and shuttled around the city for about two hours. I was exhausted and Debbie was nearly delerious, so we had difficulty paying attention.
We found that the Barcelonans are very proud of their role in the 1992 Olympics and were more interested in showing us the sports venues than the city, bypassing several interesting sites. Finally we came to the center of the city. Of two structures that I found amazing one was a house (below) built by Antonio Gaudi using as decoration the scrap tile from the house next door. The most impressive, however, was La Sagrada Familia (right) which Gaudi began over 100 years ago. Only six of the proposed eighteen towers are complete and there is yet no interior. With computers and modern construction techniques, the cathedral is thought to be completed in another 50 to 100 years!
After a brief stop at the cathedral, it was off to the harbor where we were to meet our home for the next twelve days; the Legend of the Seas (the larger of the ships below right).
