Anza-Borrego State Park, California

Rather centrally located, the Palm Canyon Campground in Anza-Borrego makes a convenient place to set up base camp. From here, Nukeboy often ventures out into the desert a day or two at a time.   To the left we meet Chris, Nukeboy's brother, and Steve, long time sidekick.   Having a good base camp is important for relaxation after a tough day of adventurin'.   Directly below, Chris, Steve and Nukeboy conquer a high peak offering vistas of not only the campgrounds, but far off into the Borrego Valley.   Below right, Nukeboy eases sore muscles with a bit of "medicine".
Palm Canyon, for which the campground is named, lies a couple short miles up a canyon trail. At the base of the trail, it may be extremely hot and dry, but at the oasis, a year-round stream trickles away and the palms provide cool shade.   Actually, water in the desert is not that rare. This is Coyote Creek, which runs year-round as a stream, but it occasionally gets rather deep after a good rain!
