Anza-Borrego State Park, California

Three scenes of Borrego: The Malpais, aerial view of Borrego Springs and the desert floor near Fish Creek and Split Mountain.
Anza Borrego Desert State Park, the largest state park in the nation, lies in Southern California ranging from the mountains to the east of San Diego to the Salton Sea. Its geography is as diverse as the flora and fauna that thrive there. At its highest altitudes lie alpine meadows, it then drops down below sea-level to the sun-baked mud of the Badlands. As the images cycle to the left, you can see that the desert is anything but empty "nothingness".
Although the main campgrounds and many of the park's more popular sites are accessible by passenger car, the best places can only be reached with a four-wheel drive. Nukeboy now drives a Nissan Xterra.
