ANNOUNCING THE NEW ARRIVAL By-Mommy Dechance A new arrival graced the planet earth on Friday May 29, 1998 at 7:17pm. His name is Grayson Michael Dechance. On this special day he weighed in at 9 pounds 6.5 ounces and measured a whopping 22-½ inches. Mom & Dad had waited anxiously for almost 10 months to welcome Grayson. In that time he was lovingly introduced as Spud. This name became known when his first picture was taken inside of Mom. Dad commented that it looked like a picture of a little potato, therefore, Spud. Mom & Dad chose the name of Grayson Michael as a tribute to the families that they came from. Dad’s great-grandfather was Alfred Grayson. Mom’s side of the family, was the source for the name Michael. It came from Grampa P’s middle name, David Michael. It is anticipated that Grayson will be planning a tour this year to visit his adoring fans everywhere. |

Grayson’s View In my humble opinion, ceiling fans are definitely underrated! Think about it now, they are a main source of entertainment, they will go for hours and not get boring. There seems to be some other benefits that mommy & daddy talk about. Ceiling fans circulate air so that our room doesn’t get too hot, but I don’t bother too much with that concern. This has been my opinion for months now, so when I come up with something better, I’ll keep you informed. Master Grayson |
Entertainment To drool for; The Mask of Zorro… As a young movie critic I have a limited source for comparison. From what I know the Mask of Zorro was an excellent movie. I greatly enjoyed the action. The horses provided eye-catching thrills and excitement. Mommy & daddy said something about a plot and romance but that’s not what I’m into. We happened to choose a most desirable theater in that the volume was balanced just right. My sensitive ears were not overwhelmed in the least. Of course mommy made sure that I had my own private snack bar for the "intermission". On a side note, some of you may not be able to make it to the theater, so I wholeheartedly recommend Freakazoid. It’s a great show on every night at 7:00. After that I have to watch something challenging. Generally, we all watch Wheel of Fortune so mommy can practice to be on it someday. I really enjoy spending this quality time with mommy & daddy. Until next time… Master Grayson |

Sports Recently, we were invited to the upcoming Spudinapolis 500. This new event was developed by none other than The Great Spudnelli Jones. With the help of the super walker by Graco Manufacturing and his sponsor Gramma P, Spudnelli has been getting up to speed for this future event. As of yet the date has not been set, but we look forward to hearing about it soon. In golf news, Lion Spuds made an appearance at the San Luis Obispo Country Club for the Calcutta. He dazzled the members in his newest pro golf togs. He opted to sit this tournament out as he reports needing a bit of work on his swing. Mommy & daddy Health & Fitness In health today, the good doctor provided me with my inoculations for the next few months. I have to say that mommy doesn’t fib when she tells me it’s going to hurt. Daddy holds my hand while I am poked. I don’t think he likes the shots either because I really cry when I get them. |
When the nurse weighed and measured me, mommy and daddy were very surprised! At 4 months and 1 day (September 30th) I am 22 pounds 1 ounce and 27 ¼ inches tall. Grammy D tells me that I am big for my age. Quite a few people have asked if I plan to be a football player. I have no idea what the heck that is, but mommy & daddy say that Grampy D would advise against it. In fitness, mommy says that I am her personal trainer and nutritional expert. I really prefer when mommy doesn’t eat chocolate so she had to exclude that from her diet. I have recommended that more vegetables and fruits be incorporated into the daily regime. She has a hard time with some of those, but is improving slowly. For toning and shaping muscles and cardiovascular stamina, I help her do bench presses, leg lifts and lots of walking. Daddy has told me that I’m doing a fantastic job with mommy’s routine. This routine will be published in the upcoming, "Body By Spud". Look for it on shelves in the best seller section. Spud

Fashion Styles and sizes, Oh the Variety! Well now this is going to be a tough one! Are you ready? I am currently modeling the fashions of 12 & 18-month-old kids. Some of my favorite T-shirts are 2T, they are a little roomy but they’re great for sleeping in. Mommy & I are big fans of cotton clothing. It tends to breathe well and mommy has an easier time getting them on as the stretch & give is helpful. I do enjoy the fall colors of tan & navy, but my all time favorite is still green. Mommy says that they really make me shine. I ought to do something about that, seems that shiny is not in these days, who can keep up with these things? The hair-dos that mommy gets are great fun. She really tries to keep it up and fashionable. I still prefer it down and flowing. It’s much easier to grab and chew on. I am seen to the right in my most comfortable attire. It is a Kleenex creation of the new Huggies line. I prefer it to most current fashions. If it were up to me I’m rather proud of my birthday suit and would wear it all the time. Mommy says that I get my suit too messy, so for now I will adhere to her keen fashion sense. Until we meet again, Grayson Klein |
Real Estate Recently the interest rates on home loans have plummeted to a 30-year low. Mommy & daddy have been keeping current on properties and homes for purchase. I have requested a large house with a great deal of room for romping and frolicking about. I also require a sizable piece of property to keep all my critters. My horse Gus needs my constant attention and not having him nearby is quite troublesome. I would rather keep off the busy roads as mommy gets concerned about traffic and won’t let me go out to play. Mommy & daddy have found a great old house with 5 acres that we should be moving into soon. It’s still a temporary house but at least we will have much more room. Next issue I will give you more details. Farmer Spud |

Critters As you may well know, I am prone to the keeping of critters. Mommy says that they are good for my health. Daddy says that we have a bunch of dog food still on the hoof. I can’t figure that one out. We don’t have any dogs, so why all the dog food? It has been theorized that pets lower one’s blood pressure. When approached with this theory mommy & daddy concurred that this must be true, as both of them have rather low blood pressure. Grammy D & Gramma P have told them that I will change that very soon. The newest addition to our family is my very own horse. His name is Gus. He was born on August 3rd 1998. Reports say that he will be a blue roan. His mommy, Annie, is very nice to share him with me. I have seen him out at play and he looks rather rambunctious. I have been notified that I will need to do some growing before I can play with him. In the mean tine, I will continue to help mommy with haltering and gentling Gus.

In other news, Samantha & Sasha, the masters of the household have accepted my arrival. Samantha is the older of the two and has taken it upon herself to watch over me as I sleep. I find it difficult to nap peacefully without her purring at my feet. Sasha is still a kitten. She provides endless entertainment and encourages my forward movement. Mommy & daddy comment frequently how tolerant she is. Mommy warns that if I’m not nice to the kitties I could get hurt. And now a letter to Santa, mommy claims that this Santa character is the one to hit up for a big aquarium with bright fishies in it.

Culture For a great exposure to living history I was fortunate to be invited to the Faire of Kings in Hanford, CA. This Renaissance gathering provided a variety of cultures, entertainment and historical re-enactments. At the end of Saturday’s events a dear friend of daddy’s joined lives with a beautiful bride. Her gown was hand made by a distant relative of the bride. I really enjoyed all of the gold that had been stitched into the deep forest green velvet. Sir Davenriche was decked from head to toe in an equally astounding outfit. Black velvet with gold roping around the edges and a gold inlay in the sleeves and legs of his pants. Daddy was requested to stand at Sir Davenriche’s side in full armor. It was quite a sight! I made sure that I dressed appropriately so as not to stand out too much. So many fine young lasses caught my attention. I found great difficulty staying focused on the historical aspects of the Faire.

Mommy & daddy were also sure to bring the old west to me. There was something about some John Wayne person and many loud noises, but again I was delighted to see numerous colorful outfits. My photographer was not available for this event so regretfully I cannot provide a visual for this edition. For now I bid you adieu, Master Mudgling To explain this pen name, daddy goes by Sir Mudge Black the Evertardy at these Faires, therefore I was dubbed the Mudgling.
Until we meet again, I hope that you have enjoyed your time with me mommy & daddy.
