Setting up your own
Web Page on Surfari.Net

Surfari Internet provides drive space for users to have their own Web Page(s). You are limited by the amount of storage space you have on your personal drive directory, which is usually more than enough for even a robust web presence.
There a a few steps involved here before your page(s) will be online for the world to see. We have created a step by step procedure below to help you along the way.

Creating Your Web Page

First create a HOME Page (web page) and save it as a file called index.html. If you are a DOS/WIN31 user, you'll have to call it index.htm since the file system limitation only allows a 3 character file name extension. Subsequent web pages can be called anything you wish (again, DOS/WIN31 users have the 3 character file name extension limitation).

What Directory to Use

Each user on Surfari Internet has a HOME directory, in it there is a directory called public_html, which has already been created for you by Surfar Internet when your account was created. This directory will house all your web pages and associated graphics.
If you are a customer that has a domain hosted with Surfari.Net - than your directory will be called html and NOT the public_html as stated for the personal accounts.

Upload your Web page(s) and Graphics

Using an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program, you will transmit (or upload) your files to your public_html directory. Surfari Internet recommends using a shareware product called WS_FTP, you can get a copy here (click on this link to download) for Windows V3.1 and 95 or a very good MAC FTP program available from our site called Fetch v3.01.

To use the FTP program you need to tell it which site you want to connect to, in this case it would be ftp.surfari.net, to access your personal HOME directory. When asked for a user name and password, just fill in your account name and your account password. The program will connect you to your HOME directory and will show a listing of that directory. Navigate to the public_html directory and send your pages and images there.

If you are a DOS/WIN31 user, don't forget to change the name of your HOME page from index.htm to index.html (again, using the FTP program).

Accessing your Web page(s)

To access your HOME Page (saved as index.html in your public_html directory) point your web browser to http://www.surfari.net/~username/, where username is the account name you have with Surfari Internet (dont' forget to use the tilde before the username).
